I have tried everything and have the same issue. The backups are running and everything is working as it should but I cannot exclude any folders or files. I tried reading the tutorial about doing it but I did not have any luck. I tried relative paths from every directory and absolute paths from /home but no luck. I created a new backup preset and told it to use the exclusion list but that doesn't change anything. When I click show excluded files all it excludes is the backup folder it ignores whatever I have entered. Any help would be great as I think this backup application is awesome if I can just get it working.

Running latest version of Wordpress 2.3.1 and backup 0.4.5 as I said everything is running fine except the exclusion part. If I could just exclude the photos folder from being backed up it would shrink my backup by about 190 megs

I've got an equal issue: BackUpWordPress seems to ignore my exclude lists. I've tried relative and absolute paths, but "show exluded files" never excluded anything more then my backup folder and recalculate disk space includes my excluded paths, too.

I am using WordPress 2.3.1 and BackUpWordPress 0.4.5 on a server, hosted by provider.

When I click on the button to calculate the backup size, it gives me a result of about 54 mb. However, when I run the backup, I get a 700 mb file. I think this is because it's backing up everything in my public_html directory, not just my wordpress stuff. I have about 5 sites that I host on the same server, and the plugin is backing them all up into the same file. I've tried exclusions using relative and absolute references, but it doesn't seem to help.

My directory structure is like this:

/me/public_html <--main site
/me/public_html/site2

Francisco, SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 10074 is not allowed to access deleted_from_post/httpdocs/wp-content/backup owned by uid 48 means:

Your webserver is running as user 10074, your backup directory is owned by user 48. Unless you don't do a "chown 10074 wp-content/backup", you won't be lucky, since you have got SAFE-MODE on.

Try the following: delete hte backup directory, chmod 777 your wp-content, let BackUpWordPress create you backup directory (this should now be owned by uid 10074, the webserver), chmod 755 your wp-content.

Now, when Apache is writing to the backup directory it should be allowed to.

mrking, have you tested your excludelist? There is an option to preview what will definitely be excluded. If you can see that directory in the reulst of the excludelist preview and your preset is configured right (there is also an option to preview the results of a preset), manual backup should ignore this directory and therefore not throw that error again.

mrking, yes, there is a solution: create yourself an excludelist and add the path to html/stats/. You would not want to backup your stats anyway. Create a preset with this exclude list. Use this preset for you manual backups.

As for you scheduled backups: just leve the as is. You'll see that error message within your logfile, but that doesn't affect the integrity of your resulting backups.

FranciscoH, the line
## Tuesday, 18 de September de 2007 16:59:13: SQL Dump could not be created.
in your logfile means that BackUpWordPress (that means PHP running with the permissions of the webserver) was not able to write into the backup directory.
Obviously directories created by the user that runs the webserver are not writable by this user. Can you please post the results of this plugin: http://wordpress.designpraxis.at/plugins/phpinfo/

I think it is a server side issue you are running into.

mrking, everything seems to be allright, except that html/stats/.statspwd file. The webserver has not enough permissions to read that file, therefore BackUpWordPress is not able to backup that file.

How do the contents of the created backup file look like? Is everything in there? Download and extract it, and see if the sql-dump is well. Use a tool like "Total Commander" (on windows) to compare the contents of the backup with your wordpress installation online.

At first I had problems because the logs directory was created with not enough privileges. Had to delete it and create a new one. Manual backup does something, creates a sql.tar.gz file (I'm doing just the sql backup)that is 35 bytes long. It decompresses to a tar file that cannot be further decompressed.
The log file is as follows:
Preset: sql only
Schedule: manually

BackUpWordPress tries to proceed with this unfinished backup. On a WordPress website with low traffic, reload the page a few times, to trigger the action.

If nothing happens for more than 5 minutes, deaktivate the plugin, install the newest version and activate again.

But, finally a backup folder and a log file is created.

chris, the problem is you execution timeout: you have got VERY restrictive php_ini settings! Can you do a ini_set() on max_execution_time? I suppose, if you are not root on you machine, probably not :(

The problem is, that BackUpWordPress quite likely runs longer than 10 Seconds. I have implemented staggered export of the data, so that shouldn't matter. As I said: should not.

A max_execution_time setting of 30 seconds is quite common and there have been no problems with such a setting. However, I'll try to restrict my offline version to settings as apply to you webserver and do some testing as soon as I find the time.
